The country's first high-altitude floriculture park

  • As a significant initiative to boost floriculture and environmental development in Ladakh, the foundation stones for two high-altitude floriculture parks in Leh district were laid on June 22, 2026.
  • Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena inaugurated these ambitious projects at Choglamsar and Stakna.
  • Considered the first initiative of its kind in India, these projects aim to encourage flower cultivation in the cold desert region, conserve biodiversity, and create new employment and livelihood opportunities for the local community.
  • The first floriculture park will be developed in the Choglamsar area of Leh, covering an area of approximately 92,687 square meters.
  • It is being developed as Ladakh's first dedicated floriculture project, where various species of flowers will be cultivated and showcased.
  • Meanwhile, the second project will be established at the Stakna campus of the School of Agricultural Sciences and Technology, University of Ladakh, in Leh.
  • This park will span an area of over 1.02 lakh square meters and serve as a major hub for research and training activities alongside flower cultivation.
  • These two projects will not only provide new momentum to the floriculture sector in Ladakh but also foster agricultural diversification, tourism promotion, and scientific research.
  • Furthermore, this initiative will play a crucial role in creating new income and employment opportunities for local farmers and the youth.
