- In a significant step towards self-reliance in India's defense and aerospace sectors, the Indian Air Force is set to receive its first indigenously manufactured C295 military transport aircraft on September 22–23, 2026.
- Manufactured in Vadodara, Gujarat, this aircraft is part of the procurement agreement for 56 C295 aircraft signed between the Ministry of Defence and Airbus in September 2021.
- This project is considered a key achievement that strengthens the 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' (Self-Reliant India) initiatives.
- The C295 is a modern twin-engine turboprop military transport aircraft developed for tactical air transport, the movement of troops and equipment, logistics supply, and various military operations.
- Its multi-role capability makes it a vital asset for the Air Force.
- The program is being executed through a joint collaboration between Tata Advanced Systems Limited and Airbus.
- A state-of-the-art Final Assembly Line (FAL) has been established in Vadodara as part of the project.
- Under the contract for a total of 56 aircraft, the first 16 are being delivered to India in fly-away condition from the Airbus plant in Seville, Spain, while the remaining 40 will be manufactured and assembled within India.
- This initiative represents a significant effort to bolster the country's defense manufacturing capabilities and reduce reliance on imports.
