- Taking a significant step towards strengthening the country's road infrastructure network, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated a 188-kilometer-long section of the Delhi–Amritsar–Katra Expressway on July 17, 2026.
- Under this initiative, Packages 1 to 5 (157.92 km) in Jind, Haryana, and Package 6 (30.9 km) in Jalandhar, Punjab, were opened to traffic.
- With this, more than 188 kilometers of the expressway are now fully operational.
- Being developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) under the Bharatmala Pariyojana, this expressway is one of the country's most ambitious road projects.
- Spanning a total length of 667 kilometers, this greenfield, access-controlled expressway will provide modern and rapid road connectivity linking Delhi with Amritsar and Katra.
- Designed with future traffic requirements in mind, this state-of-the-art four-lane expressway is built to allow for expansion up to eight lanes if needed.
- The construction of the inaugurated Packages 1 to 5 incurred a cost of approximately ₹9,680 crore.
- The project's primary objective is to significantly reduce travel time, ensure safe and seamless commuting, and boost trade, tourism, and regional economic development across North India.
