- On July 4, 2026, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex at Pachpadra in the Balotra district of Rajasthan.
- This project is considered a significant milestone in boosting self-reliance within the country's energy, refining, and petrochemical sectors.
- It has been developed as a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and the Government of Rajasthan, with HPCL holding a 74% stake and the Rajasthan government holding 26%.
- Built at a cost of over ₹79,450 crore, this state-of-the-art project has a refining capacity of 9 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) and a petrochemical production capacity of 2.4 million metric tonnes per annum.
- The project is a greenfield industrial complex based on modern technology, meaning it was constructed entirely from scratch on previously undeveloped land.
- Such projects are developed using the latest technology, advanced infrastructure, and high production efficiency, thereby fostering industrial growth alongside regional economic activity and job creation.
