- The Central Government has decided to officially designate the Central Vista redevelopment area in New Delhi as the ‘Kartavya Bhawan Complex’ or ‘Kartavya Bhawan Area,’ effective from July 12, 2026.
- This new identity will encompass Kartavya Path, the government offices located in the area, and the administrative buildings to be developed in the future.
- This change is not merely a renaming exercise but a significant initiative towards establishing a modern, integrated, and more efficient administrative system.
- The Central Vista is the principal administrative and ceremonial precinct of the national capital, New Delhi, stretching from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate. This area houses numerous central government ministries and key buildings of national importance.
- Under the Common Central Secretariat project, a total of 10 new administrative buildings are planned. Construction of three of these buildings has been completed, and they have been named ‘Kartavya Bhawan.’
- The first Kartavya Bhawan was dedicated to the nation in August 2025 and is expected to become fully operational by September 2026.
- The objective of these buildings is to strengthen administrative coordination, efficiency, and good governance by bringing various ministries together into an integrated complex.
