RBI's new Executive Director

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has appointed Ravi Shankar as Executive Director, effective July 1, 2026.

• Prior to this appointment, he served as the Adviser-in-Charge of the RBI's Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM).

• He will continue to lead the DSIM department even after assuming the role of Executive Director. This appointment marks a significant step towards further strengthening the RBI's senior administrative and management structure.

• The Department of Statistics and Information Management (DSIM) is the RBI's key department for data, statistics, and research.

• Its primary function involves the collection, compilation, verification, and analysis of statistical data related to the banking and corporate sectors.

• Additionally, the department conducts various economic and financial surveys and provides the data and research material essential for monetary policy, financial stability, and economic analysis.

• The department plays a crucial role in assessing the country's economic activities and informing policy decisions.
