1st World Yogasana Championship, 2026


  • Ahmedabad carved a distinct niche for itself in the international sports arena by hosting the inaugural World Yogasana Championship from June 4 to June 8, 2026.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated this historic competition, held at the EKA Arena (TransStadia) in Gujarat, on June 4.
  • This event is regarded as a significant step towards establishing Yogasana as a competitive sport on the global stage.
  • India delivered a stellar performance at the championship, securing the top spot on the medal tally.
  • Indian athletes won a total of 114 medals, comprising 102 gold, 9 silver, and 3 bronze medals.
  • Japan finished second with 3 gold, 3 silver, and 5 bronze medals. Meanwhile, Argentina secured the third position, winning 2 gold and 3 silver medals, driven by the outstanding performance of Nabila Barraza.
  • The success of the first World Yogasana Championship not only linked India's yoga tradition with the global sports platform but also gave Yogasana a new identity as an international competitive sport.
