Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja to take command of Armed Forces Medical Services

• The Government of India has appointed Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja as the Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS).

• He will assume office on August 31, 2026.

• He will succeed Surgeon Vice Admiral Arti Sarin, who is retiring on the same day.

• Air Marshal Thareja possesses nearly four decades of experience in the medical services of the Indian Armed Forces.

• An alumnus of the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC), Pune, he joined the Armed Forces Medical Services in December 1986.

• He obtained his MD in Medicine in 1997 and a DM in Gastroenterology from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi, in 2005.

• He was also awarded the 'Best DM Student Award' at AIIMS for his outstanding performance.

• Throughout his long military medical career, he has held several key responsibilities.

• He served as the Commandant of Military Hospital, Pathankot, and Command Hospital, Lucknow. Additionally, he served as the Director and Commandant of the Armed Forces Medical College, Pune.

• His extensive experience and leadership capabilities will play a pivotal role in further strengthening the medical system of the Indian Armed Forces.
