- In a major blow to Sri Lanka, the International Cricket Council has withdrawn the hosting of the first Women's Champions Trophy from it.
- This tournament between six teams was proposed to be held from 14 to 28 February 2027.
- However, after the removal of hosting from Sri Lanka, it has not been decided yet in which country the competition will be organised.
- This decision of the International Cricket Council has been taken regarding the current administrative system of Sri Lankan cricket.
- On 30 August 2026, the council withdrew the hosting rights of the tournament from Sri Lanka. At that time, the governance of Sri Lankan cricket was in the hands of a government-appointed transition committee instead of elected officials.
- The supreme body of cricket took this administrative situation of Sri Lanka Cricket seriously and on this basis decided to withdraw the hosting.
- The independent and elected functioning of the Cricket Board is considered important under the Council's hosting policy. In such a situation, questions were being raised regarding the functioning of the committee appointed by the government in Sri Lankan cricket.
- On behalf of Sri Lanka Cricket, Secretary of the Transition Committee, Prakash Shafter has also confirmed that the hosting of the tournament has been snatched away. However, no official announcement has been made yet regarding the new venue of the competition.
