India's first women's commando conversion course

  • The National Security Guard (NSG) has taken a significant step towards providing specialized commando training to female security personnel.
  • India's first-ever women's commando conversion course commenced on August 24, 2026, at the NSG training center in Manesar, Haryana.
  • In this 12-week residential training program, selected female personnel from state police forces and Central Armed Police Forces will be prepared for counter-terrorism operations and other high-risk security missions.
  • During the training, participants will be trained in capabilities such as weapon handling, precision shooting, tactical intervention, hostage rescue, and rapid response in crisis situations.
  • Additionally, special emphasis will be placed on physical fitness, discipline, quick decision-making, and effective team coordination.
  • This initiative is considered a significant move towards preparing female personnel for more challenging and specialized roles in security operations.
