• The Karnataka government approved the Karnataka Aerospace Policy 2026-2031 on September 9, 2026.

• Under this new policy, sectors related to aerospace, defense, aviation, and space research and development have been brought under a unified policy framework.

• The government's primary objective is to attract investments worth approximately ₹60,000 crore into the state over the next five years.

• Karnataka has long been one of the country's leading hubs for aerospace and defense manufacturing. Numerous major public and private sector companies, particularly in Bengaluru, are engaged in aviation and defense production.

• However, the new policy aims to expand this industrial activity beyond Bengaluru to other districts of the state.

• The policy emphasizes promoting not only aircraft manufacturing and defense equipment production but also avionics, Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) services, supply chains, and testing facilities. Additionally, a focus will be placed on skill development to create a skilled workforce tailored to industry needs.

• The government expects this policy to attract new investments in the aerospace and defense sectors, generate employment opportunities, and accelerate industrial growth across various districts of Karnataka.

• This initiative could help strengthen the state's existing aerospace capabilities while also facilitating the development of new industrial hubs outside Bengaluru.
