- He was born on September 15, 1861, in Muddenahalli, Karnataka. Since 1968, September 15 has been observed as Engineers’ Day in India to honor his remarkable contributions to the fields of engineering and nation-building.
- Sir M. Visvesvaraya carried out significant work in the areas of irrigation, water management, dam construction, and industrial development. He is particularly remembered for his contributions to the Krishnaraja Sagar Dam project and for the improved management of water resources.
- He also played a pivotal role in the development of the Mysore State, serving as the Diwan of Mysore from 1912 to 1918. Under his leadership, there was significant progress in education, industry, agriculture, banking, and infrastructure development.
- In 1955, he was honored with the Bharat Ratna, one of the country's highest civilian awards. The objective of National Engineers’ Day is not merely to commemorate Sir M.
