Frank-Walter Steinmeier re-elected President of Germany

  • In the presidential election of Germany, the current President Frank-Walter Steinmeier became the 13th German President with a majority.
  • The 66-year-old Steinmeier got 1045 votes out of the 1425 effective votes received in the election, making him elected president with a majority in the first phase.
  • He will become the 13th President of Germany.
  • He became president in 2017.
  • Prior to this, he had served two terms as Foreign Minister to Chancellor Angela Merkel and Chief of Staff to Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder.
  • Steinmeier also became the first German federal president to be re-elected since 1994.
