- Lt Gen Baggavalli Somashekar Raju will take over as the Deputy Chief of the Army Staff on May 1, 2022.
- He is an alumnus of Sainik School and National Defense Academy, Bijapur.
- He had served in the Jat Regiment on December 15, 1984.
- He has held the responsibility of his battalion during Operation Parakram in the Western Battle Zone and Jammu and Kashmir.
- Apart from this, Lt Gen Raju has also served as the Commandant of the Indian Military Training Group in Bhutan.
- Prior to taking over as the Deputy Chief of the Army Staff, the General Officer was heading the Director General of Military Operations during the standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC).
