New Prime Minister of Pakistan

  • Shahbaz Sharif was sworn in as Pakistan's 23rd prime minister. 
  • Sharif was elected by the country's parliamen. 
  • He was the sole candidate after only other rival Khan loyalist Shah Mahmood Qureshi  withdrew and resigned his seat.
  • Senate chairperson Sadiq Sanjarani administered the oath to Sharif. 
  • After securing 174 votes (the requirement for a majority is 172), Sharif was declared the prime minister of the country.
  • Shehbaz Sharif is ex-prime minister Nawaz Sharif’s younger brother.
