- The theme for the year 2022 is "Heritage and Climate".
- Through this day, to attract people's attention towards World Heritage Sites, spread awareness about them and protect and preserve them.
- The Ellora caves are located in Maharashtra, India's first world heritage site.
- At present, a total of 40 sites in India have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
- Out of which 32 have got place in cultural category while 7 in natural category and 1 in mixed category.
