- The provisional results of the Annual Industry Survey (ASI) were released by the Ministry of Statistics and Program Implementation.
- The survey was conducted from April 2021 to January 2022 through ASI web portal.
- ASI, the major source of industrial data in India, is the most comprehensive data on organized manufacturing.
- It includes all factories employing 10 or more workers using electricity and all factories employing 20 or more workers without using electricity.
- The number of factories in the country grew by 1.7% to 2.46 lakh in 2019-20, employing a total of 1.3 crore workers.
- Gross fixed capital formation, an indicator of investment, grew by 20.5 per cent to Rs 4.15 lakh crore in the organized manufacturing sector in 2019-20 as against Rs 3.44 lakh crore in the previous fiscal, up 10.2 per cent.
- This is compared with a growth of 1.98% in the number of factories to 2.42 lakh in 2018-19 and 1.2% in the year after demonetisation of 2017-18.
