- He will replace retired Harshvardhan Shringla.
- Mr. Kwatra served as India's envoy to Nepal before taking over as Foreign Secretary.
- Kwatra was India's ambassador to France before becoming the ambassador of Nepal.
- Mr. Kwatra has served as a diplomat for more than 32 years.
- He has also held the position of a Joint Secretary in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) for two years between October 2015 and August 2017.
