Noted santoor player, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma passes away

  • Indian music composer and santoor player, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma passed away at the age of 84.
  • He was suffering from kidney-related problems for the past six months and was on dialysis.
  •  He died due to cardiac arrest.
  • He gave the santoor a classical status and elevated it along with other traditional and famous instruments such as the sitar and the sarod.
  •  Earlier the santoor was a little known musical instrument of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • Pandit Shivkumar Sharma was awarded the prestigious Padma Shri in 1991 and Padma Vibhushan in 2001.
