State of the World's Forests 2022

  • The State of the World's Forests 2022 report was released by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization.
  • In January 2022, the Union Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change released the India State of Forest Report 2021.
  • In the Declaration of the Glasgow Leaders on Forests and Land Use, 140 countries pledged to prevent the loss of forests by 2030 and support their restoration and sustainable production and consumption.
  • This report is published bi-annually and is widely regarded as one of the most important data or stocks on forest ecosystems.
  • The 2022 edition of SOFO examines the potential of three forest pathways to tackle multi-faceted hazards on Earth, including green recovery, climate change and biodiversity loss. These are:
  • Preventing deforestation and maintaining forests.
  • Restoring degraded land and expanding agro-forestry.
  • Sustainable use of forests and creation of green value chain.
