- India is ranked 150 out of 180 countries.

- Norway has topped in this index.
- It is followed by Denmark second, Sweden third, Estonia fourth and Finland fifth.
- Following the recommendation of the UNESCO General Conference in 1991, the United Nations General Assembly declared World Press Freedom Day in 1993.

- The World Press Freedom Index is published annually by Reporters Sans Frontieres (RSF) or Reporters Without Borders since 2002.
