World Press Freedom Index 2022

  • The 20th edition of the World Press Freedom Index was published by Reporters Without Borders (RSF) on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) on May 3, 2022.
  • India is ranked 150 out of 180 countries.
  • India was ranked 142 in the year 2021.
  • Norway has topped in this index.
  • It is followed by Denmark second, Sweden third, Estonia fourth and Finland fifth.
  • Following the recommendation of the UNESCO General Conference in 1991, the United Nations General Assembly declared World Press Freedom Day in 1993.
  • Theme of the year 2022: Journalism under Digital Cease.
  • The World Press Freedom Index is published annually by Reporters Sans Frontieres (RSF) or Reporters Without Borders since 2002.
