- The Union Cabinet has approved a proposal to allow cooperative societies to sell products on the Government-e-Marketplace (GeM) platform.
- However, a transaction fee may be charged from cooperatives to cover the incremental costs.
- The decision regarding valid list of cooperatives to be included on GeM for scale up will be taken by the Ministry of Cooperation in consultation with GeM SPV (Special Purpose Vehicle).
- GeM is a one-stop national public procurement portal to facilitate online procurement of general use goods and services required by various Central and State Government Departments/Organizations/Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
- The purchase of goods and services by Ministries and Central Public Sector Enterprises (CPSEs) is mandatory for goods and services available on GeM.
