  • Its objective is to bring individuals who were previously excluded from banking services into the formal banking system.
  • Through this scheme, people are provided with easy and affordable access to financial services such as bank accounts, savings, money transfers, credit, insurance, pension, and digital payments.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana on August 28, 2014. It was initiated as a National Mission for Financial Inclusion.
  • Its fundamental aim was to ensure that no individual in the country remains outside the formal financial system solely due to financial constraints or a lack of proximity to banking facilities.
