Serena Williams announces retirement

  • Iconic Tennis Star, Serena Williams announced her retirement on August 9, 2022. 
  • She will say goodbye to tennis after US Open, which is scheduled to take place from August 29 to September 11, 2022.
  • Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) has ranked her singles world no. 1 for 319 weeks.
  • In her career, she has won 23 Grand Slam singles titles, highest by any player in the Open Era.
  • She has also won 73 career singles titles and 23 career doubles titles.
  • She was born to Oracene Price and Richard Williams, who coached Serena and her sister Venus Williams.
  • She turned into a professional tennis player in 1995.
  • At 1999 US open, she won her first major singles title.
