- The International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is an annual event held on 2 December.
- It marks the date of the adoption of the United Nations Convention for the Suppression of Trafficking in Persons and the Suppression of the Prostitutional Exploitation of Others.
- The United Nations General Assembly approved the Convention for the Suppression of Traffic in Persons and of the Exploitation of the Prostitution of Others on December 2, 1949.
- The day focuses on contemporary forms of slavery (slavery) such as trafficking in persons, sexual exploitation, worst forms of child labour, forced marriage and forced recruitment of children for use in armed conflict.
- The International Day to Remembrance of the Slave Trade and its Abolition is held on 23 August.
- The International Labor Organization (ILO) has adopted a legally binding protocol to strengthen global efforts to eliminate forced labour. The protocol came into force in November 2016.
