Former Union Minister Sharad Yadav passed away

  • Former Union Minister and Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Sharad Yadav passed away at the age of 75.
  • He had reconciled with both the Congress and arch-political rival Lalu Yadav and was instrumental in forming the Grand Alliance after the 2015 assembly elections in Bihar.
  • Sharad Yadav was a cabinet minister in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee governments in the late 1990s and the VP Singh governments in 1989.
  • He was elected seven times to the Lok Sabha and thrice to the Rajya Sabha.
  • He was the first National President of Janata Dal (United) from 2003 to 2016.
  • He launched his own party, the Loktantrik Janata Dal, in 2018, but merged it with Lalu Yadav's Rashtriya Janata Dal two years later.
