- North India's first nuclear plant will be set up in Gorakhpur, Haryana.
- Nuclear plants are mostly confined to southern states such as Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh and western Maharashtra.
- Union Minister Jitendra Singh said that the government is committed to increasing India's nuclear capability.
- Gorakhpur Haryana Anu Vidyut Project (GHAVP) will have two units of 700 MW each. It will be a Pressurized Heavy Water Reactor (PHWR) of indigenous design.
- The construction of Fire Water Pump House (FWPH) and Safety Related Pump House (SRPH) is in progress.
- Construction of other equipment is at various stages and all steam generators for the first unit have been received on site.
- At present, India has a total of 22 nuclear reactors with a total installed capacity of 6,780 MW.
