First international zero waste day

  • The United Nations is celebrating the first International Zero Waste Day on 30 March 2023.
  • The day aims to promote sustainable consumption and production patterns.
  • It also aims to raise awareness of the contribution of zero-waste initiatives to the progress of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
  • On 14th December 2022, The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in its 77th session adopted a resolution to declare 30 March as the International Day of Zero Waste.
  • This day will be celebrated every year. The proposal was put forward by Turkiye.
