World's first 3D-printed rocket successfully launched

  • Terran 1, the world's first 3D-printed rocket, has been successfully launched on its third attempt.
  • It was launched from Complex 16 of the US Space Force Station at Canaveral.
  • Terran 1's engines are powered by liquid oxygen and liquid natural gas.
  • It carried no payload on its first flight but can carry a payload of 2,755 pounds (1,250 kg) into low Earth orbit.
  • Despite continued efforts, it failed to reach orbit during the separation of the second stage. It crashed into the Atlantic Ocean.
  • The rocket is 110 feet (33.5 m) tall with a diameter of 7.5 feet (2.2 m).
  • 85% of its mass is 3D printed with metal alloys. It has been made with the world's largest 3D metal printer.
