Election commission gave vote from home option for the first time


  • For the first time, the Election Commission has introduced the Vote from Home option in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.
  • This is a first of its kind initiative by the Election Commission for those who cannot go to the polling booth due to old age or disability.
  • This initiative will encourage electoral participation in urban areas.
  • In Bengaluru, this option has been chosen by around 8900 persons who are above 80 years of age or people with disabilities.
  • Systematic Voters' Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP): It is a flagship program of ECI for voter education, spreading voter awareness and promoting voter literacy in India. It aims to increase the voter turnout to 75% in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
