- Former Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal passed away at the age of 95 in Mohali on 25 April.
- In 2022, Badal was the country's oldest candidate for the state elections, but lost to AAP's first candidate, Gurmeet Singh Khudiyan.
- This was Badal's 13th assembly election.
- He became the youngest sarpanch when he was elected from Badal village in 1952.
- In 1970 he also became the youngest CM of the state, in 2012 he became the oldest CM.
- He also holds the record of becoming CM five times till 1970-71, 1977-80, 1997-2002, 2007-12 and 2012-17.
- In addition, he once became a member of the Lok Sabha, as well as served as the Union Agriculture Minister for a short tenure.
- In 2015, he was awarded the Padma Vibhushan, which he returned in 2020 in protest against three controversial farm laws.
