- The European Commission (EC) has granted Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) to Kangra tea, which will come into effect from April 11, 2023.
- Kangra tea is famous for its unique taste. It is available as black and green tea.
- Kangra tea is grown at an altitude of 900 to 1,400 meters above sea level in an area with an annual rainfall of 270–350 cm.
- In 1849, Dr. Jameson, the then Superintendent of Botanical Tea Gardens, declared the Kangra Valley ideal for tea cultivation.
- The demand for Kangra tea is continuously increasing and it is a registered Geographical Indication (GI) in India.
- Kangra tea was given the Geographical Indication status in 2005.
