National Safe Motherhood Day 2023

• National Safe Motherhood Day is celebrated every year on 11 April in India.

• It is celebrated to raise awareness about proper health care and maternity facilities for pregnant and lactating women.

• The Government of India declared Kasturba Gandhi's birthday, April 11, as National Safe Motherhood Day in 2003 at the request of the White Ribbon Alliance.

• India was the first country to declare 11 April as National Safe Motherhood Day.

• India is making significant progress towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goal of reducing the Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) to 70 per lakh live births by 2030.
