Syria rejoins Arab League

  • On 7 May, the Arab League re-inducted Syria after an 11-year absence, following a meeting at the Arab League's headquarters in Cairo, Egypt.
  • After 2011, Syria was suspended during a violent crackdown on anti-government protests.
  • Syria's participation was suspended from 16 November 2011 to 7 May 2023.
  • Now, Syrian President Bashar al-Assad may attend the upcoming Arab League summit in Saudi Arabia.
