- The theme for International Albinism Awareness Day 2023 is 'Inclusion is Strength'.
- On 4 May 2006, the Tanzania Albinism Society (TAS) and other NGOs celebrated the first Albino Day.
- Since 2009, it has been called National Albino Day.
- The United Nations Human Rights Council adopted a resolution in 2013 entitled "Assaults and discrimination against persons with albinism".
- In December 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared 13 June as International Albinism Awareness Day from 2015.
