- Bihar's much-awaited second tiger reserve will open in late 2023 or early 2024.
- Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary will be the second tiger reserve of Bihar after Valmiki Tiger Reserve (VTR).
- At present a total of 54 tigers are present in the state.
- Shergarh Fort, a major tourist attraction, as well as 58 villages, will be in the buffer zone of this tiger reserve.
- State forest department officials said they are working to obtain the approval of the National Tiger Reserve Conservation Authority (NTCA) to declare it a tiger reserve.
- Kaimur district is divided into two parts: the hilly region, also known as the Kaimur Plateau, and the plains of the western part.
- Kaimur district has vast forest cover and is home to tigers, leopards and chinkaras.
- The Kaimur forest covers an area of 1,134 sq km which includes the 986 sq km Kaimur Wildlife Sanctuary.
