GI tag to famous Pashmina of Jammu and Kashmir


  • The famous Pashmina of Jammu and Kashmir got geographical recognition with GI tag.
  • Basohli Pashmina is more than 100 years old traditional craft of Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir.
  • The Department of Industries and Commerce achieved this feat in collaboration with NABARD Jammu and Human Welfare Association, Varanasi.
  • In early 2023, the famous Basohli painting and Chikri wood of Rajouri district of Jammu division got the GI tag.
  • Basohli Pashmina, a hand spun product known for its extreme softness, fineness and light weight, has insulating properties and extended life, and all these qualities make Basohli Pashmina unique.
  • Pashmina products include shawls, mufflers, blankets and baskets for both men and women.
