- He was the former captain of India and one of the greatest left-arm spinners.
- He played 67 Tests for India between 1967 and 1979 and took 266 wickets.
- Additionally, he took seven wickets in ten One Day Internationals.
- Bedi was briefly the manager of the Indian cricket team during the tour of New Zealand and England in 1990.
- In India he was called the "Lord of Spin".
