International Day of Nonviolence 2023


  • This day is celebrated on 2 October to commemorate the birthday of Mahatma Gandhi (Father of the Nation).

  • In 2007, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a resolution designating October 2 as the International Day of Nonviolence.
  • The principle of nonviolence – also known as nonviolent resistance – rejects the use of physical violence to achieve social or political change.
  • In India, 2 October is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti.
