BCCI retires MS Dhoni's jersey

  • The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to retire the jersey number 7 of MS Dhoni in honor of his contribution to Indian cricket.
  • MS Dhoni captained the Indian team that won the ICC Men's T20 World Cup in 2007, the ICC Men's ODI World Cup in 2011 and the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.
  • Dhoni has become the second Indian to receive this honour.
  • Earlier, BCCI had also retired Sachin Tendulkar's number 10 jersey.
  • Many sports, including football and basketball, follow the tradition of retiring jerseys.
  • As per International Cricket Council (ICC) guidelines, players can choose any number between 1 to 100 for their jersey.
