India's first manned space mission

  • Four astronauts - Prashant Nair, Angad Pratap, Ajit Krishnan and Shubhanshu Shukla have been named for India's first manned space mission.
  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi revealed the names of four astronauts for the Gaganyaan mission.
  • The astronauts completed a one-year training course in the Russian city of Zvezdny Gorodok.
  • Gaganyaan mission is India's first human space flight programme.
  • Under the Gaganyaan project, crew members will be sent to a 400 km orbit for a three-day mission.
  • ISRO has set up an Astronaut Training Facility in Bengaluru to train astronauts for manned missions.
