32nd member of NATO

• Sweden officially becomes the 32nd member of NATO.

• Sweden recently completed the accession process in Washington.

• NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg highlighted that Sweden now enjoys protection under Article 5.

• Under Article 5 of NATO's treaty, all members are obliged to come to the aid of an ally whose territory or security is threatened.

• It has been activated only once, that too by the US after the September 11, 2001 attacks.
