- The Central Government has implemented the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA).
- It has notified the Citizenship (Amendment) Rules, 2024.
- It makes minorities from six communities persecuted on religious grounds in three countries eligible for Indian citizenship.
- The six communities are Hindu, Sikh, Buddhist, Jain, Parsi and Christian.
- These three countries are Afghanistan, Bangladesh and Pakistan.
- The CAA provides Indian nationality to persecuted non-Muslim migrants from three countries who came to India till December 31, 2014.
- The President had approved the Citizenship Amendment Act on 12 December 2019.
