Election Commissioner Arun Goyal resigned

  • On March 9, Election Commissioner Arun Goyal resigned.
  • He resigned just days before the expected announcement of the schedule for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
  • Mr Goyal's resignation was immediately officially accepted by President Draupadi Murmu.
  • There was already one vacancy in the three-member Election Commission of India and now, only Chief Election Commissioner Rajeev Kumar is left in the election panel.
  • In November 2022, Mr. Goyal joined the Election Commission.
