Hyderabad is not the joint capital of Andhra Pradesh, Telangana


  • Hyderabad was made the joint capital of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh for 10 years when Andhra Pradesh was bifurcated in 2014.
  • Telangana was formed on 02 June 2014. Hyderabad will be the capital of Telangana only from 2 June 2024.
  • As per the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act 2014, Hyderabad ceases to be the joint capital of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana from 02 June 2024.
  • As per Section 5(1) of the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014, Hyderabad was to remain the capital of Telangana only for ten years and a new capital was to be established for Andhra Pradesh.
  • The Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Bill was passed in Parliament in February 2014.
