Nepal's new prime minister

  • On July 15, 2024, K.P. Sharma Oli was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Nepal.
  • On July 14, 2024, Nepal President Ram Chandra Paudel appointed Oli as the new Prime Minister of a coalition between the Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) and the Nepali Congress (NC).
  • The largest political party in Parliament, the Nepali Congress, supports Oli.
  • Oli was the only candidate who had the support of 166 legislators.
  • At least 138 members of the 275-member House of Representatives are required to form a government.
