New union home secretary

• On August 22, senior IAS officer Govind Mohan took charge as the new Union Home Secretary.

• He replaced Ajay Kumar Bhalla, who has completed his five-year term in the post.

• Before being appointed to the second-highest bureaucratic post after the Cabinet Secretary, Mohan was serving as the Union Culture Secretary.

• Mohan has already been appointed as Officer on Special Duty in the Union Home Ministry.
