• It is celebrated to recognize the importance of elephants in our ecosystem.

• The theme of World Elephant Day 2024 is "Embodying prehistoric beauty, religious relevance and environmental significance".

• The day also aims to raise awareness about the importance of elephant conservation. Elephants are the world's largest terrestrial animals.

• The first World Elephant Day was celebrated on 12 August 2012 by Thailand's Elephant Reintroduction Foundation and Canadian filmmakers Patricia Sims and Michael Clarke.
