  • “Brain rot” has been chosen as the Oxford Word of the Year for 2024.
  • It reflects concerns about the impact of social media on mental health.
  • It is defined as cognitive decline caused by trivial online content.
  • After a public vote by over 37,000 participants, six words were shortlisted.
  • Brain rot is one of them. The other five words are demure, dynamic pricing, lore, romanticism and slop.
