State Day of Manipur, Tripura and Meghalaya

  • The Statehood Day of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura is celebrated every year on January 21.
  • PM Narendra Modi greeted the people of Tripura, Meghalaya and Manipur on their 53rd Statehood Day.
  • The three states, which attained statehood under the North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971, celebrated their 53rd anniversary of statehood this year.
  • The North-Eastern Areas (Reorganisation) Act, 1971 came into effect on January 21, 1972.
  • Manipur and Tripura were princely states that were merged into India in October 1949. The states were then given the status of Union Territories.
